Eastbourne College
Miller Bourne architects Hove were instructed to build a new sports hall, pavilion, dining room and classroom block at Eastbourne College. Built to celebrate them being open for 150 years and known as Project 150 the project is a testament to modern design and construction using traditional materials. A previous Miller Bourne partner had attended the college which made the project even more personal.
They had also designed a new Science block a few years ago and used a special stocks blend from Blockley, now dis-continued, so they needed a new blend to fit in with the original college buildings and Science block. Many types were viewed at the college, and the following was decided on, a 3 brick blend (TBS) which included 3 shades of red built in Flemish bond, and a 2 brick blend containing only the 2 lighter shades for large stack bonded soldier feature panels.
The bond involved large amounts of cut bonding bricks, plinth courses in half, three quarter and full length plinth stretchers, angled specials and various pistols.
The architects and client were delighted with the end result.
