Natural & Reconstructed Stone
Our natural stone is dug out of thin, easily managed beds. The natural grain of the rock allows it to be split into flat surfaced, rectangular blocks, ideal for dry stone or cemented walls. N R Taylor can supply blocks to any size, to produce cropped blocks in a variety of yellow, brown and ‘blue’ colours.
The stone is perfect for building work in house extensions, conservation work and garden landscaping. We specialise in working with architects and conservationists to repair and restore listed buildings.
Reconstructed Stone
Reconstructed stone can be manufactured in several ways. The main categories are semi-dry and wet cast. Essentially, reconstructed stone is composed of aggregates (e.g. sand, gravel, crushed limestone) bonded with cement.
The bond is formed as a result of a chemical reaction between the cement and water. The strength of this bond increases steadily with time and continues after the product is built into place. There is a common misconception that hardening is a result of drying out but this is not the case. Indeed, the presence of water is essential in strength development.
Pigments are added to colour the stone. These are completely durable and colour-fast.
