The Royal Arsenal Woolwich is a landmark re-development by Berkeley Homes in London. The high quality materials and workmanship demonstrated on these buildings shows how important the scheme is to Berkeley’s and all those working on the project. The brick specification was particularly difficult as there have been a great variety of bricks used in the area over the centuries and Master Planners Allies & Morrison wanted to make sure that the right brick was used for the area.
The images show how a few bricks laid in the material testing area, lead to a full scale mock up of a bay window and then onto the full build. Brick slips were used for the internal face of the external walls, which helps to create a feeling of solidity in the apartments. You feel that you are in a high quaility hotel with the soft deep carpets and clean environment. It is well worth a visit as the museums at the Royal Arsenal give you an insight into what life was like two hundred years ago.
