Chelsea Academy

The Chelsea Academy in Lots Road, Chelsea, is a shining example of the new style of brick being used on London Buildings. Whilst it is entirely appropriate to use London Yellow Stock bricks on renovation work and infill developments, it is important that new buildings carry their own identity and show the architectural fashion of our time.

The Mystique  is a charasmatic brick, with a textured surface and multi coloured finish. The mortar colour and style of flush pointing creates a bright canvas of colour which harmonizes with the surrounding buildings.

There are many UK and European bricks with a similar feel to the Mystique, but none have managed to capture the unique qualities seen in this brick, so far! In some cases, an imported brick can travel less road miles and therefore be more sustainable than a brick produced in the UK. It is always worth checking which factory a brick comes from in order to determine how sustainable the product will be.
