The standard size for a modern metric brick is 215 x 102 x 65mm. There is also a wide range of Imperial size bricks, Roman size bricks and a growing number of companies offering European format. Some manufacturers will even make to a specific size you require.
The texture of the brick is an important aspect to consider. There are a number of finishes available from smooth, sanded, handmade with natural creasing, simulated handmade in various degrees of texture. Dragfaced, rusticated, lined, riven, pressed, waterstruck, rolled and tumbled.
Many buildings require special shaped bricks to enable the brickwork to look desireable. Most bricks are available in standard and bespoke special shapes, but it is always worth checking as they can take 6-12 weeks to produce, depending on the shape, brick type and quantity.
The most common way of laying bricks in a single skin situation is to use the stretcher bond or half lap. There are so many different ways to lay the bricks which can enhance your building at little additional cost. Flemish Bond is definately worth considering and looks great.
Avoid availability problems by planning your brick deliveries. How many do you need and when do you need them? We can place an order with a manufacturer and organise individual loads of bricks to be delivered when you need them. Be prepared to avoid disappointment.
